Jason Tilley’s ‘People of India’ photographs

By -

Photographer Jason Scott Tilley’s “People of India” is currently showing at the Herbert Art Gallery in conjunction with his family archive photographs & historical archives from the British Library and the Library of Birmingham. Jason spent 6 months on residency at Coventry University, printing the work in preparation for this project.

People of India presents a series of extraordinary photographs drawn from three immense collections – two historical, one contemporary – created at key moments in India’s history. Together these official, personal and historic images invite the viewer to compare the ways in which the people of India have been documented over the last 150 years.
