Alafuro Sikoki-Coleman is the Senior Curator for Lagosphoto Festival and editor of Art Base Africa. She was also a graduate of the Communication Authoring and Design degree from Coventry University in 2003.
Alafuro visited us to talk to the photography students about the festival, by discussing and exploring the variety of work that has been included in previous years, and the current festival on now between 24th October and 27th November. She also gave an insight into her own professional development and career path.
Alafuro Sikoki-Coleman is an artist and industrial designer whose work explores the dynamics between the object, user, and the environment. Sikoki-Coleman graduated from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, in 2006 with a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Authoring and Design from Coventry University, UK (2003). Sikoki-Coleman won Second Prize at the National Art Competition for her project entitled Cog, which explores television consumption and media saturation in Nigeria today.
This was also a great opportunity for the students to talk to Alafuro about their own work and portfolios. We hope to be able to invite Alafuro in again to work more directly with students on developing their professional practice.
