Ludic Rooms & the Playable City

By -

Local media arts organisation Ludic Rooms, aka Dom Breadmore & Ash Brown dropped in today to talk to us about their recent creative work and interest in the concept of the playable city, a key theme for our current student projects. Shortlisted for the international Watershed Playable City award for the past three years, Ludic Rooms aim to transform spaces through technology and play, creating interactive experiences and encouraging their audiences to co-create and author their own interpretations.

Drawing robots are positioned on a large sheet of paper by their creators ready to be switched on during a creative hackathon.

As part of their visit, Dom & Ash also ran a creative hackathon with the challenge of creating a fully functioning drawing robot out of nothing more than a few everyday household objects and the students creative ingenuity. Testing the rapid prototyping and problem solving abilities of the groups, the session produced a dazzling array of machines with varying degrees of artistic prowess.
