Double award win for graduate filmmaker Michelle Bailey

By -

A graduate of both the Media & Communications BA and the Communication Culture and Media MA courses at Coventry University, MICHELLE BAILEY has continued to forge a filmmaking career path since her success with award winning short film Dad.

Dad has received multiple industry accolades, including Best Short Film at the SoCal Film Festival. In 2013 Michelle won the Insight Film Festival Award for young filmmakers aged 18-25, the prize for which was a place at the summer film school workshop at EICAR in Paris.

Since then Michelle has continued to contribute to the UK emerging filmmakers community by delivering workshops at the Insight Festival, and by working in the industry as a Production Designer for commercials, corporate videos, and short films. Michelle is also currently developing her next directorial project.

Michelle most recently created the concept for and directed a music video for upcoming band Batsch, signed to Coventry’s own independent label Tin Angel Records.

Michelle first started to build her industry experience whilst a student on the Media & Communications BA course, working in her summer holidays as a runner on film sets, and also working for the East Asian Film Society, where she won the Coventry University Student’s Union award for Best Female in 2011, and visited Udine Far East Film Festival several times to interview film directors. Michelle’s experiences underline the importance of embracing those early industry opportunities that surround you at Coventry University before you go out in the wider world.
