“Es ist niemals ein Dokument der Kultur, ohne zugleich ein solches der Barbarei zu sein.” – BENJAMIN
How do you critically analyse a space as vast and complex as a city like Berlin? This was the question that was put to students on the MA in Communication, Culture and Media with a view to exploring the German capital as a response to theories of power, resistance, modernity, technology, positionality, architecture, and diaspora.
The result of 4 days of field research and teamwork will be on show in the Glass Box gallery with Checkpoint | Counterpoint – a pop up exhibition exploring Berlin through barriers and restrictions, the creativity of the street, cultural identity through food cultures, light as decoration, and the cosmopolitan traveller.
Doors open on Tuesday 12th July at 4pm in the Glass Box Gallery on Earl Street (opposite Drapers).
